This is my last ever post before leaving for China and there's nothing much I'm going to say, just a bit of thoughts here and there.
We're taking China Eastern Airlines(I was thinking, shouldn't it be Eastern China Airlines? Whatever.) and there's no entertainment on board(a.k.a. screen in front of you) but then the flight's only 4 hours so it shouldn't be that boring since it's at 2.10am and I'm probably gonna sleep rather than play.
We were told to bring a torchlight in case of blackouts in the hotels. Ok, this really worries me. I daresay, I don't like the dark very much and the thought of bathing halfway when all the light suddenly go off is quite frightening. but I shouldn't expect much from a place like this which isn't as advanced.
I've almost finished packing all my items(except my brush and comb which I need later so I'll pack it in after I use it) but whenever I go on tours or holidays or anything that needs me to pack a huge amount of items(especially clothes and necessities), I have this constant "fear" that I've forgotten to bring something and I constantly review my list(both on paper and in my mind) to make sure all my items are there but I can't help feeling that I've forgotten to bring something although there doesn't seem to be anything that I've forgotten.
I hope I'll be able to go shopping there at least once. It really annoys me to know that I can go to a palce but I don't have time to buy the items because the tour doesn't allow for it. I got heaps of shopping time in Europe and South Africa and Japan so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I'll be able to at least buy something from there(something practical yet memorable of course. I don't buy stuff for nothing!).
And from my cousins and uncles and aunties who have had tons of experience of holidaying in China, here are the shopping tips they gave:
1. DO NOT ever buy gems or jewellery. They could be fake.
2. DO NOT buy any medicines or "rare herbs" or miracle cures. They could be fake too, and they're freaking expensive.
3. Lastly, whatever you buy, BARGAIN.
I mean, most people think that abstaining from gems and medicines are easy. Just DON'T BUY THEM RIGHT? Nope. It's not that simple.
I'm sure all you billingual Chinese in Singapore know, that when you say something in English, then say the same sentence in Chinese(with an accurate translation), the CHinese one always sounds more passionate and exaggerated. Just try it, it's true. And we all know how charismatic and eloquent chinese speakers can be in speaking, especially when they're promoting products. So, it isn't as easy as it sounds.
But then again, I'm not the kind who buys gems and jewels and medicines. I'm the kind who buys CDs and crafts and bags.
I'm leaving for Changi Airport at 11.15pm tonight, and my brother and I are keeping the years-old tradition of eating Skittles on the way there in the car.
I just love Changi Airport, it's so full of life and there are so many different kinds of people there. Plus, you look up at that HUGE departure board and see half the world cities on it.... "Cairo... Paris... Tokyo... Seoul... Vancouver..." And you start to wish that one day, maybe one day you could be on a plane, flying to one of these far away cities...
Still, who am I to complain? I'm lucky enough to go travelling almost every year which is what's fuelling the only passion I'm sure I have. See you guys when I'm back and wish me bon voyage!
