Ethics of Disection

I disected a sheep's heart today! It was very very fun, not to mention squishy and smelly! But seriously. Who cares? Disecting is so cool! You get to see everything in 3D form!

Before we started disecting, our Bio teacher started rambling on about the 'Ethics of Disection':

1) Respect the organ and treat it as if it were alive.

2) Do not mash the organ up into mince meat.

So after this briefing, we were given this lumpy red thing covered with white stuff on a tray and I stared at it thinking This is a HEART? It's so small!!!!! Actually, it was. Smaller than I expected really. When I got near it I began to have second thoughts about touching it. But then I really wanted to do it, so I tried sticking my pinky finger into the artery(which is the biggest blood vessel there) and it went all the way into the chamber of the heart!

My friend then tried cutting the sides to open it up so we could see the inside. Most people will think that the worst thing about cutting it is the blood and the smell right? In fact, the hardest part was actually CUTTING OPEN the tissue. It was so fatty and tough. But when we were done, we looked in at it was awesome. You can actually see everything clearly and I tried to pull the tendons of the valves out but they were REALLY TOO STRONG to pull out. So we gave up and cut it with scissors instead. I don't know if you take Bio, but the tendons in the heart are even thinner than thread! Amazing, don't you think?

And I really don't know why some people can't eat after disecting something. I was ravenous after it actually. So there you have it, I disected a heart today, learnt about it, and loved every minute of it.

Donut Factory

I think that everyone who knows me well will know that I have a weird fetish for taking photos of food I like.
Here's one I took on Saturday night.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THESE ARE?

Yes I know they are donuts. but what's so special about them is that they are frmo the very famous DONUT FACTORY! My mum got them from their Suntec City outlet, in less than 20 mins, no less!

Don't they look good??? My favourite one is the one on the top left hand corner. There's chocolate inside!!! That's why when I took the picture I'd already cut half of it to eat. Lol.

So next time if you want to eat donuts from DONUT FACTORY, go to Suntec. The queue moves much faster than the Raffles City one.

Prawn noodles

After school today, HG and I went to this small eating house near school for a lunch of prawn noodles. According to HG, the prawn noodles there are super yummy and super famous! At the stall, I saw newspaper cutouts and a BIG Channel U logo so it should be good.

Actually, HG brought me there before a few months ago but I've totally forgotten the taste. The only thing I remember is that you should never eat spicy prawn noodles in this weather without tissue and water!!! I forgot to bring my tissue paper today and ended up drenched in sweat and gasping with a runny nose.

So anyway, the noodles were pretty good. It's just normal yellow noodles with a spicy-sweetish-saltish(basically the taste of prawn and chilli) sauce and a bowl of prawn soup with 3 HUGE prawns in it. Simple as it was, it was incredibly good. I especially loved the sauce they used to mix the noodles in! And also the soup! Mmmm... YUM!

The only setback was that it was VERY spicy. I don't even remember it being so spicy last time! Throughout our meal, HG was laughing at me because I was trying to eat while mopping my sweat from my face and sniffing. And she also pointed out that my lips were VERY VERY RED.

Still, I don't really care because I left the eating house feeling contented and satisfied, and that's what matters. :D

Live Earth

Did you guys catch the show? I thought it was really awesome, but I was too tired to watch the entire thing.

And did any of you even wear green on that day? I was pretty disappointed with the response. There are more people wearing black on an average day than the number of people wearing green on that day. To give you a rough estimate, less than 10% of the people are wearing green. It's not about how you look in green, but how you feel about saving this planet.

I've got the evidence. And you can't say it is invalid because everyone saw it with their own eyes. So little adults wore green, thus showing how much they even care about environmental-friendliness. If so little of them care, how do they expect us qing shao nian to be concerned about huan bao when they don't set a good example for us?

Besides, no one really takes what we say seriously. You can try telling ANY adult about how you feel on global warming or any current social situation. They'll jst be like, "Oh, ok...." or worse still, just brush you off telling you that you'er too young to understand such things. True, we may lack the experience. But we certainly DO NOT lack the knowledge. We study geography. We study social studies. We KNOW what is going on, and we know WHY. What we don't know is HOW the people around us can continue to be so unconcerned. Us teenagers can TRY to be more huan bao, but if the adults don't do anything, it's unlikely the situation will change.

The Earth needs you, it needs all of us. There's no reason why people in non developed countries should face the consequences of the sins the developed countries have committed. And there's this one thing. If it gets cold, you can always put more clothing on. But if it gets hotter, you can't take anymore clothing off. So let's try our best to be as environmentally friendly as possible(for starters, you can stop using those deodorants with aerosols), because its the only right thing to do.

BTSS (Back-to-school-syndrome)

I am now officially sick.

Sick with back-to-school-symdrome(Symptoms include coughing, runny-stuffy nose and fever as a result of lack of sleep).

It started on Youth day(Monday), when I started a severe coughing fit while trying to revise my chinese oral with HG.

On Tuesday, as said earlier, I almost blacked out and then vomitted.

On Wednesday, I started to have runny nose and stuffy nose both at the same time in addition to the cough.

On Thursday, my cough and runny-stuffy nose improved SLIGHTLY, but I had mild fever. To top it off, I had my O Level Chinese Oral on that day. I must say it went better than my school oral though. And who do I thank for that? Korean dramas. Yes, K dramas really improved my chinese. I then went to the doctor and got a 1 day MC and 4 DIFFERENT kinds of medication. 3 tablets and 1 bottle of cough syrup. It would have been 5, but my mum declined the antibiotics. Seriously, I have never EVER needed to take so much medication in my entire LIFE.

On Friday, I am resting at home after sleeping for approximately 10 hours. I am DETERMINED to recover by Sunday. Wish me luck.

Case Study and Blacking out

Case Study
Ok, so you guys want an example of how those aunties always seem to get away with their inconsiderate behaviour even though, I daresay, they're more annoying than we are?

Here's one for ya...

On Sunday after church, I was in Bus 107 with my mum and bro on our way to Marina Square for lunch. I wasn't doing much. I was just studying my O level Chinese oral notes with a typical yellow highlighter in hand and sitting on those seats in front where you sit sideways so your back is against the side of the bus. Right next to me, there was an empty two-seater, so whoever who sits there faces my side. Right, so I've got the scenario clear now.

Some time after turning into Kallang/Geylang bahru, 2 aunties came up the bus. One sat in the row right opposite me. The other sat in the two-seater which was facing my side. The one that sat beside me (kind of, even though we're in two completely different seats) took off her sandals(I must say I don't think her feet were very clean), rested both feet on the empty seat beside her and proceeded to talk to her friend in this clear loud voice. How disgusting can you get? Pretty inconsiderate too, don't you think? I mean, who'd like to sit on a seat that once cushioned someone's FEET?

I ignored her, and continued to study my notes, with much difficulty, since the bus was jolting around. Then I looked at her again, and to my HORROR, one of her foot was now resting on the bottom of my squarish-like seat handle. I was just MILLIMETRES away from me. I can't believe her. I mean, you've already got an empty seat to abuse, and now you want MINE? I mean, someone is SITTING on it, and you just rest your dirty foot on it like you own the whole world, and you even expect me to accept your, might I say, ATROCIOUS, behaviour?

I couldn't stand it. So what if I'm just 15? I'm never gonna let her walk all over me. That's as good as admitting defeat. But then, if I screamed at her to move to the back, it wouldn't do good to our poor mangled reputation as well, nor would I even dare to do it. So I kept glancing, OBVIOUSLY, at her foot. And in say, 5 minutes, she'd scooted to the back. SUCCESS.

Don't say I have no respect for my seniors. I have respect for everyone, even little 3 year olds. However, the amount of respect you get from me depends on your behaviour and how you treat others around you. If you've lost that bit of respect I had for you then sorry, but you have to earn it back. You don't demand respect, because it will never be given to you this way. You earn it, and MAINTAIN it. Don't think that just because you've got authority means that you can go around telling people you deserve their respect. It doesn't work this way, and it never will.

Blacking out
I almost blacked out in school today. It was pretty freaky, but kind of cool too. I was already not feeling very well because the countless late nights I'd spent poring over my notes and textbooks. Don't say I don't have proper time management, if you ask me, there's no point because:

1)I've got practically NO TIME to manage.
2)When I've been so good to manage my time, something crops up and ruins my plans.

And you think I want to sleep at 1.30AM? Who asked them to squeeze all 5 tests in one week? Which leaves me no time to study for some of them, and means that I have to dig out the time from my sleep.

I went to school feeling pretty OK. But during flag raising, my stomach felt a bit queasy and I felt well, VERY nauseous. My stomach was practically lurching and I had to keep on swallowing to keep the vomit down, at least for the time being. Then the most scary thing happened.

Sometime towards the ending of the school song, the edges of my vision started blackening and blurring and I realised I was kind of dizzy as well. When I could sit down(thank goodness, if not I'd have puked all over everyone), my vision gradually went back to normal, but all I could hear were muffled voices and it sounded really really WEIRD. Then I knew, straightaway, that had I not sit down, I would have blacked out.

I managed to hang on till the end of morning assembly. Then I told my friend, XinYi, "I feel like puking." and then ran into the toilets and vomitted all over the sink(Which I must say I did pretty neatly since none got out of the sink). It was like my stomach was like some water hose or something, it kept spewing out mixtures of hydrochloric acid and my breakfast till it was satisfied. While I was busy puking, Cherise somehow appeared and started clapping me on the back.

Puking is a pretty bad experience and I wouldn't encourage it in ALL circumstances. But whatever, like you can decide that. Almost blacking out aws kind of cool though. I later reconfirmed the "symptoms of blacking out" with SM and it turns out that she experienced just the same thing when she blacked out and almost ermmm... broke her nose.

Green
Just a reminder, try your best to wear green on 7th and/or 8th July to show your support for the Global warming concert thing. It would also be a great way to celebrate the best colour that this earth was ever blessed with.
